Emirates and Cathay Pacific are very good airlines. NOt sure about Kenya or Phillipines, although I suspect Phillipines is a good one. > I’ll be in some odd airports:  Cairo, Khartoum, Nairobi, Duabai, Manila, > Iliolo, Hong Kong, Brisbane, Cairns,  Tokyo and Honolulu — any > thoughts on these??

What you’ll see of Hong Kong won’t be weird. But you will miss the landing experience at the old (soon to be closed) Kai Tak airport. You’ll land at the brand spanking new one. Brisbane is a modern and not too small airport. Some distance from downtown. Cairns is good airport. 2 terminals. Showers are luxurious in the intl terminal (ground floor, arrivals section). Showers are ok in the domestic one. Airport about 5km from town. There is a BURGER KING in the domestic departures lounge. (This is somewhat of a rarity in Australia since Burger King were forced to operate under a different name (Hungry Jacks) in Australia). But you can get real food too as there are a few more food stalls, with big one in the middle which serves good fruit drinks. Honolulu is a pretty standard airport.

As far as the airlines go, they don’t get much better than Cathay Pacific or Emirates. If you have ever flown with one of the US carriers you will find these two significantly better. Philippine Airlines are ok. There are plenty better than them, and plenty worse. Kenya Airlines are acceptable. As far as the airports you mention go, the majority could hardly be described as being odd! Tokyo, Hong Kong(brand new), Brisbane, Cairns, Dubai and Manila are all modern International airports with the facilities you would expect. Nairobi and Cairo will be as you would expect in those countries, working, but maybe not everything that users of ‘Western’ airports are used to. As for Khartoum, even in the best of times, not the best airport on the planet I would imagine, but with the country virtually at civil war with mass starvation in the south, good luck.
