Just received their new schedule that includes the new seat layouts for 747-400 and DC-10s. What has changed is that what used to be rows 5-8 in business class are now rows 6 to 11 in coach. So, for the purpuses of your seat selection, it won’t matter much unless you want to havea seat up front, where you can request 6 to 11 coach. These seats are between the first 5 rows (business) and the main door and staircase. As well, Coach on the DC-10s remains the same. They basically took off one row out of Business class. (altheough on the french schedule, they show 5 rows, they are still numbered 1 to 6
As well, they acknowledge reception of an additional 747-400 and of 2 DC-10s. Since DC10 are probably no longer manufactured, I was wondering if anyone knew who CP got their DC10s from ?

CP only has a handful of 747-400s (I think they are up to 4 now, but don’t quote me). 16 seats first class. 28 Business (lower), 32 business (upper), 316 coach. In coach, exit rows are: 12 (ABC) 14 (HJK) (behind galley wall) 23 (ABC)-(HJK) 24 (DEFG) behind lavatories wall 33 (ABC)-(HJK) 36 (DEFG) (behind galley walls) rows 45, 46, 47 only have 2 seats on the sides (AB and JK) I beleive that CP has 747-475s. They have no movie screens but TV screens located throughout the plane. I had seat 23K on the way back from Hong Kong. Window seats on exit rows for 747-400 are not the best because of the door being so wide at the base (to store emergency chute, i assume). Best bet is aisle or middle seat on the exit row. If you get a DC10, ask for row 21. Also, CP has a bonded flight from Vancouver (YVR) to Toronto (YYZ) and if you book an onward flight, you should make sure of where you will go through customs.

I’ll be flying YVR-NRT on May 3 on CP (flt #3), and would like to snag an exit row if possible. Does anybody know the seating config for the 744s that CP flies? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if the seat config will be any different for a return on June 11 (flt#4), please let me know. Thanks! Mike

The OAG from March 1995 shows only one seating chart for the 747-400. First Class rows 1-4, Business 5-8 & 50-59 (upper deck), and Canadian Class (coach) rows 12-48. The exit rows for coach class in the diagram are seats 12ABC, 23ABC,HJK, 33ABC,HJK. Hopefully this helps. -Eric Bartsch
