What Do These Immigrants Have To BITCH ABOUT Anyway ?
Question:
My Daily Rant (Part 1): If you took all the demonstrators who ARE here legally and all the students who skipped school to attend the ‘party’ off the street, there would be only a handful of immigrants demonstrating. Legal immigrants have no room to bitch about anything..what’s their issue anyway ? A good number get paid under the table and therefore avoid taxes….is THAT their bitch: that they will now have to account for their true income and pay accordingly like the rest of us ? Boo-f’in -hoo. Construction industry is FULL of immigrants, some legal and some illegal, getting paid a portion if not all of their income ‘off the books". These people are trying to intimidate us by touting how much higher prices will be without them. They are going to strike to show us how improtant they are to the economy. I say fire them all who strike.
Response:
> immigrants

They should have taken them out with machine guns.

Thanks to the destruction of labor unions, we have no organization that will stand up for American workers’ rights. If you had to join a union to get some of these jobs, there would be little chance of illegals working in place of Americans. dougal

So freedom of speech and democracy is not for all US citizens? Just those you deem more worthy? > A good number get paid > under the table and therefore avoid taxes….is THAT their bitch: that > they > will now have to account for their true income and pay accordingly > like the > rest of us ?
Take it up with the US firms who are breaking the law by paying people under the table. Pretty much all US citizens are either immigrants or decendants of immigrants. Including you no doubt.

>> immigrants > Where did you parents/grandparents/etc. come from?
That’s a BAD argument… Immigration at the turn of the century was to build the country with ambitious people.. Have you ever lived in a border state like California, Texas, or a Metropolis like New York?? If you have, and haven’t noticed quality of life dropping, and crime rising, you’re not paying attention. I couldn’t care less how many Sweedes or Austrailians come into the country…. It’s the people I see on COPS that we’re all talking about. My Parents/Grandparents didn’t form gangs and bring drugs into this country… That’s MY daily rant

That may be so, but plenty of other’s parents/grandparents did though.

You mean Native American? I am. Indians are foreigners from India living outside their native country. Native Indians were born in, & live in India. I’m just sayin’ … Cheers, – JJ

Yes, all three! You think it was SUCK ("please come and build us") or BLOW (fuck you, ‘po nigga, GO!)?! > If you have, and haven’t noticed quality of life dropping, and crime > rising, you’re not paying attention.
Hmmm- You’re blaming THAT on THEM?! Advice; Study Hitler’s act. You are an embarassment to your family with respect to ignorance. Response:
> Where did you parents/grandparents/etc. come from?
They came from "old country", BUT they were LEGAL immigrants. This is what I don’t get. It’s this "MODERN" idea that if you don’t get caught then there was no crime, or that if you get away with a crime long enough, then it’s really just fine and we’ll forgive you. Telling me that people who break the law are just the same as my grandparents who did NOT break the law is an insult to me and to them! Personally I am a bit of a libertarian bent which means open borders. Is the economy of the USA ruined because there are no fences and passports needed to go between states? No, but if you have a restricted situation and then want to loosen it up you are going to get some possible nasty side effects so you have to go slowly. Personally I rather like that senate "compromise" bill. I mean if we need fruit pickers and Mexicans (0r other poor folks) see that as an opportunity, more power to them! but hey, get a worker pass, come in legally, pay your share of taxes and the rest and maybe if you’ve been here long enough that you can show you had a REAL contribution to building America that entitles you to a shot at being one of us. But how about if we tied that with Mexico doing the same thing? What if I want to go down there and grab a nice high paying engineering job in a land where I can live like a king on the salary? Shouldn’t that be fair too? Or are we going to say I’m "exploiting" the poor? So please, don’t tell me that somehow I owe illegal aliens anything because they have children or don’t have money and need welfare, or the rest. Do I owe the burglar (or his estate) who broke into my house medical expenses because I shot him? If he breaks in often enough is he considered a resident in my place and no longer a thief? Just what the hell is wrong with people today that buy all this nonsense insane lawyer-like political arguments? Benj

WTF are you talking about? I’m ignorant to the places I’VE lived and how the drug trades and crimes went through the roof?? Please… Tell me you lived in one of the 5 boroughs in New York and SOUTHERN California and didn’t see trouble on every corner… No need to resort to name-calling either champ…. I live in the heartland now… It’s QUITE different… I’m just pissed I had to move away from the places I loved.

First of all everyone here is missing the point that there is a difference between an immigrant and an illegal alien. An immigrant is someone who enters the US legally. I have no issues with anyone fairness of anyone jumping in front of the line to become a citizen? Doesn’t anyone think of the people in other parts of the world who do try and desire to become US citizens that wait up to 20 years!!!. I bet anyone comming from china or the phillipines would love a job picking tomatos or fruit or what ever! And yes I am sure that during Ellis Island on the East coast or even Angle Island on the west coast people have jumped the fence so to speak…….but not near on the scale or ratio of what is comming across on our southern boarders today. What ever we do with the illegal aliens we have here now, is really mute if we don’t stop more from comming across now! It drives me crazy when people say " Oh my ancestors were misstreated a 100 years ago so you owe me now" or "your great grandfather wasn’t an American so you can’t complain" If we can’t get out of the past how in the hell will we ever move foward? Learn from the past……don’t use it as a crutch in the future. striked yourselves out of a job. Your demands for higher wages and less hours have just made employers move overseas and your higher turn makes farmers unable to pay minimum wage…so guess where they get their workers? (all this ranting was on a very very broad scope) I am not going to get in an argument on details….why? Because I dont know a damn thing LOL

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or orgin. But this is predicated upon the man’s becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American… There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have no room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilzation, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile…We have room for but one (sic primary) language here, and that is English language…and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." -President Theodore Roosevelt 1919

There are some lies being perpetuated here. First, the exact same argument you state here has been repeated ad nauseum for about 200 years, just with a different ethnic group targetted. Germans in the early 1800s, Irish mid 1800s, Italians late 1800s, Eastern Europeans early 1900s, etc. It has been wrong every single time in the past, just as it surely is wrong now. Our country has stellar history of immigration policies (with the exception of pre-WWII when we were turning away Jews, who resultingly ended up in concentration camps). We have always been the most open country in the world for immigration, and we have always benefitted from the new ideas each group brought. Second, is COPS where you get you information about crime demographics?!?!? Violent crime rates have been dropping for over 30 years. At the same time, media coverage of violent crime has quadrupled. It gives the false impression that violent crime is going up. White collar crime certainly has been rising, but that is mainly perpetuated by white folks and is not as sensational, so it does not get covered by the media as well. Third, studies on living standards showed them going strongly uphill from the end of the depression until the current day. However, the gap between the rich and poor has been growing. This is not because of Mexican immigrants taking minimum-wage jobs from American workers. This is because of wealthy lobbying groups that have worked to allow money to become more highly concentrated at the upper end of the economic spectrum. Fourth, the underlying problem is not immigrants who are taking away jobs, it is complacency and ignorance in Americans that are already here. People buy what the media tells them, which distracts from what is really going on. A classic example is the so-called "death tax." The law was originally set up to prevent America from developing familial aristocracies which plague Europe, by ensuring that there would be heavy taxes on huge sums of monies that were inherited. Somehow the media managed to get the majority of middle-class America to become incensed at this and fight for congress to repeal a law that only applies to millionaires. At almost the same time, Enron is bilking Americans blind without the slightest attention from the media. At times it almost seems like people delight in being political pawns. Fifth, GET THIS POLITICAL CRAP OFF REC.MUSIC.MAKERS.GUITAR! Take it back to alt.guitar.amps! It would be truly sad to see another good newsgroup destroyed by rampant uninformed political discussion.
