Try Snap-ON. You might be surprised at the deal they will make you on a good floor jack. This is one piece of equipment that should last a lifetime if taken care of, and with a name brand you can always get repair parts or have it serviced by a local hydraulic equipment repair shop. AT any rate I would advise staying away from those El-chepo jacks. A good name brand jack for around 300 dollars will last much longer and can be repaired when necessary. Those cheap ones are throw away jacks that don’t last long and you usually can’t find parts or repair service for them when they break. Even those bogus lifetime warranties are worthless on the cheap jacks because you have to pay shipping and handling (as much as the jack sold for to begin with) back to china and wait a year for them to return the usually still broken jack. I’m searching for a good quality floor jack to perform lifting duties for our vehicles: 1 mid-size and 3 compact cars. A 2-ton lifting capacity will certainly be enough. Does anyone have recommendations for a good brand which has reliable, good quality components, and not too expensive (under $150)? Should serviceablity also be a criteria (I’m thinking of availability of rebuild kits for the seals? Or should I treat a floor jack as a item which has a certain lifetime, and is to be discarded after it begins leaking and failing? I’ve been to various auto stores and have seen a plethora of imported jacks of unknown quality, and I’m clueless as to what the "good" and "bad" brands are.
