Try heating the food (not HOT, just WARM) or finding a type that is really smelly-works for cats with stuffed up sinuses and the older cats.

Okay, names for the Champagne-colored baby: Bubbles, Fizzy or Corky. Nice, generic, male-female names! (In fact, I had an uncle once whose nickname was Corky…)

I took April in to see the vet today. She has a URI and got a shot of penicillin and then some Clavamox drops that she gets to take two times a day for the next week! Add to that a pretty nasty ear infection… got some good cleanser stuff for that and went through half a box of q-tips cleaning out her ears! Major YUCKY!! Now she’s back home and settled down with the babies (who got the thumbs up from the Vet.!) Poor little girl barely weighs over 5 pounds. She’s in growth food now, and getting as much as she can eat. I can her a can of wet food this morning. So far that’s all I can tell that she’s really eaten aside from a little bit when I brought her home last night! I think she’ll start eating more as soon as her nose clears up though! So for now, all is quiet on the home front! The Wild Crew goes in for a check-up and testing tomorrow! Keep your fingers crossed for them! I talked to Vicki last night and she said that Momma cat (now know as the Terrified Cat or TC for short) has stopped hissing and spiting at her but still refuses to come out if Vicki is in the room. She has been handling the kittens (with TC on the other side of the room growling) every day though! Who knows how this one is going to turn out!
Liz PS- I broke down and took a couple pictures of April’s babies (Dax and China) with our web cam. I was loading them in the crate and had to hold them anyway… so I figured a short detour to the crate Via the web can wouldn’t hurt them…. Besides, April couldn’t care less if I hold the babies!
So none of you had better scream animal cruelty at me! You know you were chomping at the bit to see these little guys! Go to my web site and follow the links under the rescue page! I should have the babies pictures up there shortly! http://sandoz.home.texas.net/abbeyrescue.htm

Pointing is caused by temperature changes in the skin. The cooler areas of the body (tail and ears) darken. I would imagine that scar tissue isn’t as warm as regular tissue, due to the reduced blood flow in the scar tissue, and that would cause the color change. amy!

When i brought in the stray from my back yard and let her have kittens in my guest room last summer, she was very amenable to me coming in, combing her with a flea comb and wiping her very gently with a warm, damp cloth. She, like many of the other teen mothers in my neighborhood, loved it when i came in and watched the babies (from the first day forward) because it gave her an opportunity to leave the kitten box and lay under the bed for 10 minutes and have a smoke. She left me in charge of them while she took a break. So, if she trusts you you should be able to just about anything to make her more comfortable. As the kittens got older I also flea combed them and they went to their new homes relatively flea free. What’s the plan for the kittens? I’m in the market for a rescued kitten with a big personality (ie., siamese) to keep my dog company.

This souns good or just a wet washcloth and light cleaning. Since she has a cold, you’ll want to make sure that she doesn’t get cold, temperature wise. If you do bathe her, make sure you dry her off well and provide a heater or turn the heat up to keep her warm. You might also provide a heating pad on low heat under a towel and at one end of her box or setup so that she and the kittens can avoid it of it is too hot but enjoy it of they need it. Siamese start out pure white, the develop their points as the age. By a couple weeks, you should be able to tell what they are by the color and their pads. Frost(Lilac) and Chocolate points have pink pads; Seal and Blue have grey pads. And they do continue to get darker all over as they age. I think they stop being shown after about 2 years or so. I believe they are considered better if they darken slower. Our first seal point was pretty solid by her teens, then the tips of her fur "frosted". My Frost point looked like a blue point when she died at age 19 (except for her poink pads). Her body did get darker, but not as much. You can also have permanent color changes from injuries. We had a cat who was injured on his side. The vet had to drain it casing two holes. When the fur grew back in, it looked look an electric outlet, white body and two dark lines that looked like you could plug a cord in. Maybe wiping her with your antibacterial wipes and then with a damp paper towel to remove the chemicals? Good luck with your new brood! Rachel — To email me, change the ‘meow’ to ‘edu’.
Response:
How about if you just take a warm washcloth, rinsed in soapy water and wipe her very gently all over? She’s probably had enuff of a shock moving over to your house. I wouldn’t want to immerse her in an all over bath right away. Did you see fleas? Do you have any flea powder? That might help for tonight. When you take her to the vet, will you take her kittens with? (I always wondered about that) Also, maybe you could put tape over the crack at the bottom of the door. Don’t have *any* idea if that would work or not if she has an airborn virus. Also, Momma cat might be a "flame point", or an Oriental Shorthair. And the little tiny bit I know about siamese is that as the kittens get older, then they start to develop their color-points.

I would imagine that scar tissue isn’t as warm as regular tissue, due to the reduced blood flow in the scar tissue, and that would cause the color change. amy!

Dear Liz God bless you and keep you aqnd yours in good health. Try using the thin plastic gloves available in drug stores that are very cheap so that they, the gloves, are disposable after each using. Just an added step of prophylaxis wich might go a long way against infection.
