macy's registry
Question:
Hello folks, Well the time has come for us to register and I am looking for ideas. The easiest one is Macy’s, since 95% of our guests will have easy access to a Macys. My problem: our local macy’s isn’t very impressive. They have poor service. My relatives who live about 2 hours away don’t have any problems with their macy’s and shop there a lot. Items I would like to register for: * Nice china ( I like China a lot ) * Towels, sheets, linens * pots & pans * wine stuff * electrical appliances Locations of us & Guests: * Northern & Southern California * Virginia/ Washington DC * Minnesota * Washington State * Colorado ( a few ) Any suggestions? I know of Crate & Barrel already, but they are not local to Santa Rosa. Afsi p.s. Any experiences with catalogs for china?

Of course it is solely up to you and your experiences, but I have always received decent service at Macys. I’m assuming you mean the one in the downtown plaza as the Coddingtown store was bought out, correct? Either way, that particular store is probably the only place in Santa Rosa to register for the types of items that you listed. There is a Bed Bath & Beyond on Santa Rosa Ave. and I believe someone else in this ng gave a good review of the registration there. Don’t forget that there is are Macys in SF and I’m sure in Marin/San Rafael. If you have the time and patience for Hwy 101, of course.

I belive there is one in SF, if you have the time to go. K.

Hi! Anyone who has registered at Macy’s or bought a wedding gift there, could you please tell me how a person in the Midwest (no Macy’s here) can access a friend’s Macy’s registry list and the best way to purchase a gift from that list without having to visit the store? Thanks a lot! Kathleen

Macy’s registry can be accessed at Lazarus stores in the Midwest. I’m not sure if you have to go to the store…try calling one!

We registered at Macy’s Herald Square, NYC, and didn’t have any problems at all. I’ve had bad experiences shopping at Fortunoff’s with extremely snotty salespeople and And Fina’s as well, but Macy’s was all right. We didn’t require an appointment either. I guess it varies from store to store. I will admit, however, that registering is no fun whatsoever. Macy’s in nyc has 10 and 1/2 floors (if you include the 1 1/2 and cellar floors) and takes absolutely forever to get through. We actually had to go back for 2nd time to get it done! I would suggest Target and Waccamma (I think that’s how you spell it). I’ve compared dishes from Pier 1 and Crate & Barrel and it’s the same… just different stores and a huge price difference.

My fiance and I just registered at both Macy’s and Bed, Bath & Beyond. Registering at Bed, Bath was a MUCH more pleasant experience! The salespeople were very helpful, everything was well-organized, and prices appear on the registry. They have a great selection of small appliances, pots, towels, and bedding. They’re not so great for china or glassware, however, so you would need to register someplace like Macy’s or Fortunoff’s for that. Some people have recommended Michael C. Fina as a good catalogue registry, but I haven’t looked into it. Good luck! –Alycia

First , I will say I was not all impressed with macys. When I first got engaged, I registered there. To my suprise, it was horrible. The service and merchandise was not to my liking. I grew up where macys was so prestige, but know its garbage. I will say, if there is a fortunoffs by you, go there. The merchandise and service is high quality. I thought that it would be more expensive, but it was not. It was fair. I enjoyed going the stores and selecting the merchandise. I would highly reccomend them. they also have a website that you can order over the phone. they dont even have to go to the store, they can get your registry over the web and call and order have it wrapped and delivered. Good Luck, Elizabeth(Antonios)7-31-98

I was married 8 months ago and registered at Macy’s & Pottery Barn. The sales staff at my local Macy’s doesn’t seem to care that a gift registry will bring them thousands of dollars in sales that could easily have gone to another department store. The best thing about Macy’s (West) is that you can order gifts via their website!

JC Penney is Nationwide and they carry a lot of very nice china; Mikasa, Lennox, Pfaltzgraff, Noritake etc. They also carry lots of Flatware and Crystal, and a pretty good amount of small appliances. They have a decent amount of linens, but frankly, some of them weren’t too attractive. This is all from their Gift registy catalog… I don’t know if you can also register for the linens and such they carry in the store but I wouldn’t see why not. I am not at the pont of registering yet, but this is where I plan to when the time comes. Hope this helps! Allison (05/99) p.s. 1-800-JCP-GIFT is the # to recieve a catalog, and they have a website ( don’t know how much it helps, I just saw the address on the catalog ) www.jcpenney.com/shopping
Response:
If you want to view the online registry go to the JC Penney Homepage scroll down to "GIFT REGISTRY" and follow the link. If you want to request the catalog go to the previouly suggested URL, click "CATALOG SHOPPING" on the right and click on the catalog you wish to recieve. Just thought I’d clear that up!
Response:
If you want a great catalog for china and silver, crystal, stainless, etc. . . try Ross Simons, I think they have a web site. Their catalogue shows pages, and pages of detailed photos of china patterns, and all the above mentioned items. Even if you don’t register there it is kind of a good way to get a look at things in a leisurely manner with no sales pressure.

As someone who recently registered, let me tell you that you can scan or write down anything in the store! It may take a little longer, but that happens. The china-type stuff can *only* be ordered, but many towels and linens and whatnot can be ordered from the catalog or from the store, and you can get other things from the store besides. I have a link to my registry on my web page (under "wedding" and then "registry") so you can see how it comes up on the web. My only peeve so far is that they make it look like *you* added the "our china is found on page 9, thanks!" line. Oh well. >p.s. 1-800-JCP-GIFT is the # to recieve a catalog, and they have a >website ( don’t know how much it helps, I just saw the address on the >catalog ) www.jcpenney.com/shopping
The gift registry address is http://www.jcpgift.com — and they have your registry up on the web pretty quickly. I hand-wrote all of the info and it was up three days later. kate. | X-Men Comics, FAQs and files – http://www.enteract.com/~katew/faq.htm | | Usenet Volunteer Votetaker – http://www.enteract.com/~vote/index.html | | Patron Saint of .xbooks – Really Short Person – New webpage for 1998! |
