Getting registered at REI?
Question:
Someone told me that you can get registered at REI (http://www.rei.com) for your wedding and I was wondering if anyone had done this before or would consider it for themselves? They have so much amazing stuff that I want so I am seriously considering it as an option, and their site has almost everything they carry online. Is this a silly idea or an act of genius?! J.Worth

I don’t know anyone who’s registered at REI, but good friends registered at L.L. Bean for a similar purpose–getting gear for camping and other outdoor activities they love to do together. Sure, I felt a little strange buying a big Maglite (flashlight) for a wedding gift, but as far as they were concerned, it was eminently useful–the perfect gift! I would say go for it (my $0.02). Personally I would consider it an act of genius if you and your fiance needed enough stuff that fell within a reasonable price range. If you were just getting into a new sport like backpacking or wanted to upgrade your existing equipment it’s a great opportunity. Paul and I once considered registering at REI, but now we have all the equipment we need for backpacking, skiing, cycling, etc. that falls within a reasonable price range. Since it is highly unlikely that anyone will want to buy us that two person sea kayak for a couple thousand dollars, registering at REI is not really practical for us. Go for it! I bet registering will be a blast! I promised myself long ago I would never register for something I’d never use (fancy china, etc.). REI is a great idea! Do they really do bridal registry?? I’d hate to ask my guests to fork out that much tho’ for something they could find cheaper elsewhere.
