Lufthansa every time. — Peter
Response:
Alaska Airlines, hands down. Tell me, what other US airline not only assigns seats, has a first class section, the youngest fleet among the majors, the only route system spanning the West Coast and Mexico. (Dont get me on this, I know Delta and United and Southwest do the same, but Alaska has the only flights from Seattle to San Diego, and the most to Palm Springs and Los Angeles, Ontario, Burbank and Orange County. I call that spanning.) Also with a meal on flights of an hour and a half, ( in both classes!!!) Also the only airline to win the BEST US AIRLINE AWARD from a national magazine, even though they can only be considered a major airline int hems of passengers carried. Their system only spans the West Coast, Alaska and Mexico.

As an airline employee, who flies a lot of international flights, I would have to say that Lufthansa is the best, since they are the most consistently well run, with Virgin a very close second. The worst, hands down is Air France, rude crews, obnoxious check in, indifferent staff, the De Gaulle staff would run a prison quite well. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > The best : Swissair > The worst: Northwest (exhibit ineligible) > EM > hi.. > just wanna do a survey on which airline in your is the best in the world

Y’know, most of what you said about Air France applies to Lufthansa, based on my experience. OTOH, I rather like Air France. — Matt Conrad (http://toratora.collins.indiana.edu) Standard disclaimers apply

i will go one step further i have flown on exactly 10 different ailines in my lifetime(40 years) i will rate them worst to best based on my expeiriences with each one 10(worst)–u s airways 1(best)—–british airways
Response:
the best…british airways the worst….us airways

I don’t really believe that there is a world’s safest airline out there. Sandi L. Conne
Response:
The best airlines in the world are: Thai International Malaysian Airlines Cathay Pacific Singapore Airlines after them it’s practically all over second best are far down the pike but Garuda International Silk Air Varig Lauda Air The bottom of the barrel in respect for the passengers are American United Delta Northwest China Mexicana Aeromexico Nigerian Egyptair In general most US carriers hire old maid school teachers as flight attendants and they still think that they are trying to control a bunch of wild children rather than the business men and women who pay their salaries. I have seen a number of business men get arrested on AA for doing nothing unusual. I have been threathtned on AA myself but they backed doen when you stand your rights!
Response:
i would have to say usair…maybe a simple answer, but i have flown klm. british air, air mexico, spirit, continantal and american, and have delays on each. usair has always been on time/

Sure – don’t you remember the sequence from "Rainman" where QUANTAS was noted as "never having a fatal crash" Seems pretty easy from that standpoint.

You just committed one of the most horrific violations possible on this newsgroup. You mis-spelled Qantas. (there’s no U) Just a warning that you might get a couple hundred replys telling you how to spell it. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> I don’t really believe that there is a world’s safest airline out there. > Sandi L. Sorry, I keep forgetting that there is no "U" state in Australia. (And all that training to push "U" after "Q" is virtually impossible to break.)

Only 50 points there, Craig–there were two birds you could have hit with that one stone
. Though OTOH perhaps there *is* an airline called Quantas [avec U] that has had no crashes, and maybe that’s where this legend really comes from? Deborah Stevenson

Ah – go find my post about "q is followed by u no matter what" Once you learn to type that way, it is near IMPOSSIBLE to unlearn it even if you know better (and yes, I REALLY do know better – there is no Australian state that begins with "U" (since that is the origin of the name Q (no U) A N T A S)) (I also have trouble with certain transliterations of Arabic – Noteably Qadafi (also spelled Kadafi) and Qatar) Maybe I need to add Quantas ^h^h^h^h^h^h^h I mean QANTAS to my poofreader) (Besides, your chastisement comes after my earlier self introspective revelation so it doesn’t count!!)

So, when you are comparing these airlines, are you comparing one which you flew last week to one which you flew 40 years ago? I get the feeling that you haven’t flown US Airways in a while. I fly them quite often, and I get a much different feeling towards them. Their flight attendents are friendly and their inflight service is quick. (Not like the last United trip I took where I didn’t get beverage service until after the plane began its decent on an hour and a half flight. Clear skies too.) Their operators are *very* friendly and helpful. I actually enjoy talking to them, and they seem to enjoy talking to their customers. And I’ve only been late on them once in the last 3 years, and that was because of a blizzard here in Boston. On the other hand, last time I flew American (November), I was going across the country to a funeral with some of my classmates. A bunch of us were sleeping when we had a stop in Chicago. There was no change of planes so most of us stayed on the plane and slept. (None of us had much sleep in the last few days previous.) There was a change of crew there before continuing to SFO, and the first thing the new crew did when they boarded was yell at all of us thinking we were stowing away. "Twenty college kids sleeping? No, they must be hiding." Not a pleasant experience at all. I’m sure all of the airlines you mention have changed considerably in the last 40 years. They’ve all been through many liveries, and CEO’s, and what not. So, make sure your comparison is up to date. My personal favorites of the 6 still-present ones I’ve been on: 6 American (I will avoid if I can) 5 British Airways 4 Northwest (its been a while though) 3 United 2 Continental 1 US Airways (best, believe it or not.) i will go one step further i have flown on exactly 10 different ailines in my lifetime(40 years) i will rate them worst to best based on my expeiriences with each one 10(worst)–u s airways 1(best)—–british airways
