Aeroflot safety record

Question:

>>lousy. >It is under competition from Air China on that one. I flew >that airline from Moscow-Irkutsk-Tashkent-Tiblisi-Yalta-Kiev-Leningrad >It is lousy and one time there was no seat belt on my seat!!

I flew Aeroflot from Leningrad to Moscow and it was the only time I wanted to kiss the ground I landed on!  The plane was covered with ice, the emergency door made very unsettling whistling and banging noises, and the landing was very, very crunchy. Next time, I’ll take the train. Lisa

Response:

> lousy.

While this maybe true for domestic flights by Aeroflot I don’t think that their record on international flights is that bad. While it is true in the past that a number of domestic incidents have been covered up, it is a bit more difficult to cover up accidents that occur in other countries or involve foreign nationals. Having said that, there was recently a documentary shown in the UK about Aeroflot and despite being good party members and a doctrine to the opposite, a large proportion of their pilots seemed to have a healthy belief in God. — Jim Tilbey Kirkwall, Orkney, U.K.
