Continental to add EWR-HNL Non Stop
Question:
I used to work for CO in the late 80’s. They used to fly a DC-10 from JFK to HNL…the flight was almost always full. The passengers and the non-revs loved it!!! Alas by the time I got ready to take it, it was discontinued!!!!! I hope they keep the EWR HNL flight.
Response:
: *sigh* : This reminds me of the late 60s and into the 70s when United flew that : DC-8-61 nonstop JFK to HNL, flight time right at 11 hours. Actually it was a DC-8-62
Response:
As a frequent Non-Rev on CO (SA5A) to HNL, I am very happy, maybe it will make the LAX and SFO flights easier to get on… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > I work for the CO Europe and Pacific group dept. I work for the CO Europe and Pacific group dept. Believe me this EWRHNL NS service is very much needed. Before this we only had 3 flts per day – one each from IAH LAX and SFO. Also an occasional second flt out of LAX with 747 equipment. This created a bottleneck as you must fly to HNL to continue on to the pacific on CO. Since I fly standby this is good news for me!

Interesting Item: Continental Airlines announced the other day that they will start a Non-Stop Flight from their New York/Newark Hub to Honolulu. The flight will begin around June 11th, and will be serviced by a DC-10. Total Flight time is around 10 hours. Continental says that this will facilitate connections into their Guam (GUM) hub, as well as Manila (from GUM). They also state that this will be the only Non-Stop Service from the New York area to Hawaii.
